Rep. Jeramey Anderson Votes “NO” on HB 538: “Mississippians Deserve Leadership, Not Fear”

Jackson, MS — Today, State Representative Jeramey Anderson (District 110) voted NO on House Bill 538, standing in firm opposition to what he describes as yet another example of fear-driven politics being forced on the people of Mississippi.

“HB 538 is not about solving real problems. It’s about stoking fear, manufacturing outrage, and using everyday Mississippians as political pawns,” said Rep. Anderson. “Instead of addressing rising costs, underfunded schools, workforce development, or healthcare access, the Republican supermajority continues to prioritize political theater.”

Rep. Anderson emphasized that the bill represents a pattern of governance rooted more in national partisan loyalty than in local problem-solving.

“Time and time again, we see legislation designed to appease national political figures rather than improve the lives of the people back home,” Anderson continued. “Mississippi should not be governed by fear, nor should we be reduced to a testing ground for extreme political agendas.”

“I was elected to represent the people of District 110 — not to rubber-stamp an agenda rooted in division and distraction,” he said. “Leadership requires courage. It requires honesty. And it requires putting Mississippi families first.”

Rep. Anderson reaffirmed his commitment to focusing on substantive issues that impact working families across the Gulf Coast and throughout the state.

“Mississippians deserve real solutions — not scapegoating, not fear tactics, and not political games,” Anderson concluded. “I will continue to stand unapologetically for fairness, opportunity, and responsible governance.”
